The non slewing crane licence (CN class) is the HRWL required before operating any non-slewing crane on a Queensland worksite. Knuckle boom cranes and other non-slewing configurations are common on Brisbane building sites, glass and facade installation projects, and anywhere a vehicle-mounted non-slewing crane is in operation. No non slewing crane licence - no legal right to operate the machine.
Shamrock Training runs the non slewing crane licence course in Brisbane at our Northgate training centre. Real operators as trainers, same day statement of attainment.

A non-slewing crane is any crane where the boom or load structure does not rotate around a central point. The most common on Brisbane worksites is the knuckle boom crane - a vehicle-mounted folding arm crane used for placing materials in locations a slewing crane can't reach.
This is a different machine and different licence class from:
C2 - mobile crane up to 20 tonnes
C6/C1/C0 - slewing cranes where the structure rotates
CV - vehicle loading crane (separate class)

COURSE DETAILS
Do I need a separate licence to operate a knuckle boom crane in Queensland?
Yes. Operating a non-slewing crane requires a CN HRWL. It is completely separate from the C2 mobile crane licence and the slewing crane classes.
What is the difference between a CN and a CV crane licence?
The CN covers non-slewing cranes including knuckle booms. The CV covers vehicle loading cranes used to load and unload delivery vehicles. Different machines, different licence classes.
What is the difference between a CN and a C2 crane licence?
A C2 is a mobile crane licence for mobile cranes up to 20 tonnes. A CN is a non-slewing crane licence for cranes where the structure doesn't rotate. Separate machine types and separate licence classes.
Can I operate a slewing crane with a CN licence?
No. Slewing crane operation requires a C6, C1, or C0 HRWL. The CN covers non-slewing crane types only.
Is the non-slewing crane licence nationally recognised?
Yes. The CN HRWL is nationally recognised and valid across all Australian states and territories.
