Tower Crane Licence

The tower crane licence (CT - CPCCLTC4001) at Shamrock Training is the nationally recognised High Risk Work Licence required to legally operate tower cranes on high-rise construction, infrastructure, and major development projects across Australia — covering lift planning, crane control, load movement at height, communication with doggers, and correct shutdown and securing procedures. Courses run over five days from the Northgate Brisbane training centre near Brisbane Airport, delivered by trainers with real tower crane experience on major construction projects.

No prerequisites are required, the course costs $2,200, and after successfully completing your assessment you apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for your CT licence - the credential that puts you in the cab on the biggest construction projects running across Queensland and every major Australian city. Call Shamrock Training before booking to confirm whether you need the CT or CS class for your crane type.

Who Needs a Tower Crane Licence?

Anyone required to operate a tower crane as part of their work must hold a valid CT High Risk Work Licence (CPCCLTC4001).

This includes:

  • Workers operating tower cranes on high-rise construction, infrastructure, and major development projects

  • Workers required to operate both hammerhead and luffing jib type tower cranes — whether demountable or permanent

  • Anyone directed by their employer to hold a CT HRWL before operating on site

Tower crane operators are in strong demand across Queensland, particularly in Brisbane where a major construction pipeline continues to grow. A CT licence opens opportunities in high-rise residential, commercial, and infrastructure construction.

Without a valid CT HRWL, you cannot legally operate a tower crane on any Australian worksite. After completing your assessment, you must apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) for your licence within 60 days. A separate government fee applies.
