The dogman licence (CPCCLDG3001) is the legal requirement to direct crane operators, select and inspect lifting gear, and apply slinging techniques on any Australian worksite. The course covers crane types, dogging equipment, load estimation, lift planning, communication, hazard management, and WHS regulations in line with the National Standard for Licensing Persons to Perform High-Risk Work.

Who Needs a Dogman Licence?

Anyone performing dogging work as part of their job must hold a valid DG high risk work licence.

This includes:

  • Workers directing crane operators in the movement of loads

  • Workers selecting, inspecting, and applying slinging techniques to attach loads for crane lifts

  • Workers moving into crane and lifting operations in any industrial setting

  • Anyone required by their employer to perform dogging work on site

  • Workers who hold or are working towards a rigging licence - the DG licence is a mandatory prerequisite before progressing to Basic Rigging (CPCCLRG3001)

The Dogman licence (CPCCLDG3001) is a nationally recognised High Risk Work Licence issued in line with the National Standard for Licensing Persons to Perform High-Risk Work. Without it, you cannot legally perform dogging work on any Australian worksite.

  • Where can I complete my Dogman Ticket in Brisbane?

    Shamrock Training offers Dogman Ticket training at our practical training facility in Brisbane. The course includes the nationally recognised unit CPCCLDG3001 and is designed to help students build the skills and knowledge required for dogging work.

  • What are the entry requirements and how long is the course?

    The Dogging course is delivered over 5 days, combining classroom-based learning with practical, hands-on training. Students must be 18 years or older, have basic English literacy skills, and provide the required forms of identification. The final day includes the High Risk Work Licence assessment.

  • What is the difference between Dogging and Rigging?

    A Dogman is responsible for selecting and inspecting lifting gear, applying slinging techniques, and directing crane operators when loads are outside the operator’s clear view. A Rigger can perform dogging tasks as well as additional work such as installing structural steel, hoists, safety nets and perimeter screens. In Queensland, you generally need to complete a Dogging licence before moving into Basic Rigging.

  • Do I need to pay an extra fee for my licence after the course?

    Yes. After successfully completing your assessment, you will need to apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland for your High Risk Work Licence. This licence application has a separate government fee, and the application must be submitted within the required timeframe after your assessment.
